Shine The Light trips typically happen in January, March, October, and December of each year.

The week long trip which includes airfare, food, accommodations, transportation and tips at the Gran Ventana Beach Resort approximate costs are: $3200 CAD - $4000 CAD per adult and $2600 CAD - $2800 CAD for children under 12 (when rooming with 2 adults). This is based on double occupancy with flights out of Winnipeg, and the prices vary depending on the timing of the trip. This amount is eligible for a tax receipt.

No! After dozens of trips, we have developed a carefully designed program, so you can just hop on board and follow their lead! For the homebuilding, we hire a local crew to lead the build, so anyone can participate and feel part of the team! If you do have specific skills that you would like to share, please let us know as there may be opportunities to share these skills to the locals!

No, we hire translators so you will be able to communicate with the workers as well as connect with the locals! But if you do speak the language, it definitely helps. And if you wish to learn a few common words and phrases, the locals will love it!

8:30 AM – Buses leave for the village of Javillar

9:00 AM – Work starts

12:00 PM – Buses leave for lunch at the resort

12:30 PM – Arrive at hotel for lunch

1:30 PM – Buses leaves for Construction, Dental (and medical)

2:00 PM – Work starts

5:00 PM – Buses leave for resort

5:30 PM – Arrive back at resort

6:30 PM – Dinner

8:00 PM – Debrief

The trips are centred on building homes for families in the community. We also hold dental & medical clinics, take part in various community encounters, and occasionally hold skills training courses!

Yes. After the first two work days, we take a full day off to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the DR. You will also have time in the evenings to rest and recover. The resort gives you access to pools, the beach, and many other fun activities. You may even find time for zip-lining, hiking or visiting the town of Puerto Plata!
