Shine The Light trips typically happen in January, March, May and October of each year.

The week long trip which includes airfare, food, accommodations, transportation and tips at the Gran Ventana Beach Resort approximate costs are: $3000CAD- $3500CAD per adult and $2600CAD - $2800CAD for children under 12 (when rooming with 2 adults). This is based on double occupancy with flights out of Winnipeg. This amount is eligible for a tax receipt.

No! After dozens of trips, they have developed a carefully designed program, so you can just hop on board and follow their lead! For the homebuilding, we hire a local crew to lead the build, so anyone can participate and feel part of the team! If you do have skills that you want to share let us know, as there may be opportunities to teach skills training classes.

No, we hire translators so you will be able to communicate with the workers as well as connect with the locals! But if you do, it definitely helps. And if you wish to learn a few common words and phrases, the locals will love it!

8:30 AM – Buses leave for Construction and Dental

9:00 AM – Start working

12:00 PM – Buses leave for lunch at the resort

12:30 PM – Arrive at hotel for lunch

1:30 PM – Buses leaves for Construction, Dental (and medical)

2:00 PM – Start working

5:00 PM – Buses leave for resort

5:30 PM – Arrive back at resort

6:30 PM – Dinner

8:00 PM – Debrief when applicable

The trips are centered on building 1 or more homes for families in the community. We also hold dental & medical clinics, take part in various community encounters and sometimes hold skills training courses.

We stay at the lovely Gran Ventana Beach Resort in the Playa Dorada gated resort area. This all inclusive resort provides direct access to pools and a beautiful beach. With air conditioned rooms and comfy beds, you’ll feel energized for each work day!

Yes. After the first two work days, we take a full day off to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the DR. You will also have time in the evenings as well. The resort gives you access to pools, the beach and fun activities. You may even find time for zip-lining, hiking or visiting the town of Puerto Plata. Learn More.
