Dominican March 2022

After more than 2 years away, we were so thrilled to be able to get back to doing what we love most and head down to the Dominican with a wonderful team of 34 fellow Canadians that hailed from Vancouver all the way to Halifax! Reuniting with our Dominican family filled all of our hearts with so much joy! That first drive into Javillar on the open air trucks and stepping off into the loving embrace of dozens of people whom we dearly missed felt monumental after the past couple years of pandemic life.

This trip was also a first in another way. We had an amazing team of Canadian teens that built a home with Jonah and Isaiah as their leaders! Not only did this group build a beautiful home, but they finished each stage of the build before either of the adult teams. While the adults found shelter during the downpours of rain that were quite frequent, the youth team kept on working, laughing and dancing in the rain.

We were blessed to have the principal, teachers and students from the Montessori school in Puerto Plata as well as the youth and leaders from Dove Youth Development build homes and relationships alongside our team and the community members.

Together, we built 3 homes, held medical and dental clinics, and took part in several kitchen and community encounters. We can’t wait to be back with another team in October!
